Green Lake Park is a classical landscape garden surrounded by verdant trees, with rippling water and pavilions dotted on the lake.
Inside the park, the Ruan Embankment across from south to north and the Tang Embankment across from east to west divide the Green Lake into five scenic areas. The architecture of the center of the lake features that of pavilions and towers in the Qing Dynasty. On the southeast part of the park, there is the Shuiyue Corridor and Goldfish Island. On the northeast part, there is the bamboo forest island and Nine-Dragon Pond. On the south part, there is the island and the zigzag bridge. On the west part, there is a pavilion.
At the children’ amusement park to the west of the lake, there are some thrill rides and recreational facilities that deeply loved by children. At Green Lake Park, there are several flower exhibitions and art exhibitions every year. The large scale lantern show attracts hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Since 1985, there are large numbers of seagulls fly all the way from Siberia to Kunming to spend winter. During this time, strolling along the Green Lake and watching the seagulls is an interesting activity for both locals and tourists. The seagulls look for food in the morning, and stay overnight at Dianchi Lake. They will fly back to the north at the end of March.
From July to October, the lake is interspersed with beautiful lotus.
Early in the morning, people come to Green Lake Park to play Taiji, jog, sing, and sword-dance. In the evening, people come to have a stroll, to enjoy the scenery, or dance, amidst willows on the lake banks, feeling carefree and contented.
